| 7. Qingdao Through foreigners'Eyes
% Hiroki Nozoe (Japanese), General Manager of Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries Haier (Qingdao) Air-Conditioners Co. Ltd.
"Our company was co-established by the well-known Haier
Group and 100-year-old Mitsubishi Heavy Industry. Now the company
has entered its 9th year of operation. For the past 9 years, the
Qingdao municipal government has been encouraging foreign investment
and has formulated a variety of preferential policies, so that
we have a favourable investment environment. Our company's profit
is stable. Here, I'd just like to express my deep gratitude to
the Qingdao municipal government. Qingdao is an attractive open
coastal city. The economic activities, living conditions, and
infrastructure construction, all develop vigorously and healthily
here. I hope Qingdao will develop better than other cities in
both fame and achievements. I, also, hope Qingdao will make further
progress in its software environment so as to become an international
metropolis."
% L. Dennis Kozlowski (American), President and General Manager
of TYCO Electronics AMP Qingdao Ltd.
"Qingdao is a beautiful city. It has not only charming beaches
and natural scenery, but also favourable conditions for enterprise
development. The Qingdao municipal government has created a wonderful
climate for foreign investment with its encouraging polices. What's
more, their high working efficiency and practical attitudes give
us confidence to invest in Qingdao. I believe that we have made
a wise decision by establishing our TYCO Electronics AMP subsidiary
in the Qingdao Huanhai Development Zone."
% Mr. Ryu Kyun (Korean), General Manager of Kumho Foods (Qingdao)
Co. Ltd.
"Not only is Qingdao beautiful for its natural environment,
it also possesses an unparalleled investment environment. Geographically,
Qingdao is located in China's eastern coast and is near Korea
and Japan. It enjoys a pleasant climate, advanced transportation
by air, land, and sea, and substantial labour resources. All these
natural conditions are favourable to foreign investment. As to
the investment climate, Qingdao always goes all out to provide
foreign investors with convenient services by formulating relevant
preferential policies and regulations to support enterprises.
Kumho Foods (Qingdao) Co. Ltd. has achieved remarkable progress
in a short time under the support of the Qingdao municipal government.
We are very pleased at having chosen Qingdao as our investment
place."
% Mr. Terence Redfern (German), General Manager of Rhein Chemie
(Qingdao) Ltd
"In 1993, Rhein Chemie came to China to look for partners
in Qingdao, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Tianjin. We received special
support from the Qingdao municipal government. In addition to
that, Qingdao satisfied us with its completed infrastructure,
clean environment, highly skilled labour force, and well-developed
management. Therefore, we chose Qingdao as our co-operator. We
have never been baffled by problems that can not be resolved through
friendly negotiations."
% Mr. Lee Sung Rae (Korean), General Manager of Qingdao Kohap
Co Ltd.
"Qingdao Kohap Co. has received great support from the Qingdao
municipal government since its establishment in the Qingdao Economic
and Technological Development Zone in 1996. Based on the successful
first-phase investment, the second-phase investment of US$26 million
was made in January 2001. Presently, our company has invested
a total of US$160 million here. Through the joint efforts of our
staff, our company has established a good reputation in recent
years. We'll continue to work hard to create better economic benefits
after China's entry into the TWO and further promote local economic
development."

Qingdao Int'l Beer Festival
Eleven years have passed since the first annual Qingdao Int'l
Beer Festival was launched. In 2001, more than 1.2 million visitors
were attracted to the 11th session, during which 500,000 liters
of beer were consumed, hitting an historic high. Many beer makers
including Chinese-Yanjing, German-Konig Ludwig, Bitburg, Beck's,
HK-San Miguel, American-Blue Ribbon, Budweiser, Danish-Carlsberg,

a fabulous atmosphere. Aromatic beer and intoxicating atmosphere
will make you feel special. The 12th Qingdao Int'l Beer Festival
