5.1 Qingdao Economic & Technological
Development Zone
Established in 1984, Qingdao Economic & Technological Development
Zone is one of the 14 State-level economic and technological development
zones in China, enjoying preferential economic policies. It is
a new heavy and chemical industrial base in Qingdao. It covers
220 sq km, with a population of 300,000. By the end of 2001, this
development zone had attracted 1,235 foreign companies from 52
countries and areas, with the input foreign capital totaling US$1.75
billion.

2 Qingdao Free Trade Zone
Starting operation in 1993, the 3.8sq km Qingdao Free Trade
Zone mainly involves international trade, bonded warehousing,
export-oriented processing, and logistics. Backed by the national
Class I open port - Qianwan Port, this zone offers an ideal investment
environment. By the end of 2001, 774 foreign-funded projects had
been introduced, with an actual foreign investment of US$380 million.

5.3 Qingdao Hi-tech Industrial Park (see
the attached pictures)
Established in June 1992, the 67sq km Qingdao Hi-tech Industrial
Park is located in the eastern part of Qingdao, with such industries
as household appliance manufacturing, computer, telecommunications,
medical equipment, biochemical engineering, and auto parts as
its pillars. A dozen of the world's top 500 international business
groups, including Lucent, Hewlett Packard, Coca-Cola, Mitsubishi,
and Daewoo, have established factories here. By the end of 2001,
the Park had attracted 824 companies from the US, Britain, Italy,
Japan, Korea, and Singapore to come. The actually used foreign
capital totals US$1.33 billion.

5.4 Cross-Straits Agricultural Co-operative
Experimental Zone
The 3,166sq km Cross-Straits Agricultural Co-operative Experimental
Zone is an agricultural hi-tech development zone in Pingdu, Qingdao,
established under approval of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the
State Council, and the ministries of agriculture and foreign trade
& economic co-operation, with a planned central area of 22sq
km. It consists of model areas for farming, stockbreeding, aquaculture,
farm by-product processing, and hi-tech development. The area
enjoys convenient means of transport and complete infrastructure
facilities, and has advantages in agricultural resources, labour
force, and science & technology, as well as market.

5.5 Provincial-level Economic

Qingdao Huanhai Economic Development Zone
Qingdao Huanhai Economic Development Zone covers 6.7sq km and
is located in Chengyang District, Qingdao. It has an advantageous
location and convenient means of transport. It has five functional
units, which can offer high quality services for the enterprises
inside the area. The major industries here include electronics,
bio-pharmacy, precision machinery, and new building materials.

* Jiaonan Economic Development Zone
Next to the Qinwan Port and Qingdao Free Trade Zone, the Jiaonan
Economic Development Zone has a constructed area of 13sq km, with
a 28sq km second-phase project under construction. It has convenient
transportation and complete infrastructure facilities. It has
a water-supplying capacity of 80,000 tons/day and a sewage-treating
capacity of 60,000 tons/day. Moreover, it has three 35kv transformer
substations, an 11kv double-loop transformer substation, and a
100,000 program-controlled telephone switching system.

* Jiaozhou Economic Development Zone
Set up in 1992, the Jiaozhou Economic Development Zone covers
30sq km of land, with a planned area of 9.7sq km. It has six crisscross
highways, all equipped with DN500 water supply pipelines and DN600
drainage pipelines. It has a water-supplying capacity of 100,000
tons/day and a sewage-treating capacity of 30,000 tons/day. In
addition, it has a 35kv double-loop transformer substation and
a 64,000 program-controlled telephone switching system.

* Jimo Economic Development Zone
The 27.2sq km Jimo Economic Development Zone is advantageously
located 2km from Jimo City proper. Presently, 7.6sq km of land
have been leveled and infrastructure facilities have been completed.
Infrastructure construction of the first-phase 3,808Mu Innovative
Longyuan Intelligent and Telecom Industrial Park, which has drawn
in US$120 million, has been completed inside the Jimo Economic
Development Zone. With a total planned area of 24.9sq km, the
park will mainly specialize in the development and management
of computers, information, telecom, and multi-media. Presently,
16 international companies involved in the production and management
of computer software and hardware, and networks have set up branches
here.

* Pingdu Economic Development Zone
Covering a planned area of 10.18sq km in the east of Pingdu,
the Pingdu Economic Development Zone can supply 20,000 tons of
drinking water a day and 50,000 tons of industrial water a day,
with a daily drainage capacity of 60,000 tons. It has a power
supply capability of 170,000KVA/day and a heat supply capability
of 1.2 million tons/day. It has a 30,000 program-controlled telephone
switching system and more than 40km hardened roads.

* Laixi Economic Development Zone
The Laixi Economic Development Zone is advantageously located
in the southeast of Laixi, with a total land area of 20.28sq km.
There are 10,000 program-controlled telephone users in this zone,
which has a water supply capacity of 25,000 tons a day and a 35,000kVAX2
transformer substation. Infrastructure facilities such as schools,
hospitals, supermarkets, and bonded warehouses, and service institutions
involving industrial and commercial registration, taxation, and
public security, are all available.

5.6 Tourism Resorts (see the attached
pictures)
* Laoshan State-level Scenic Area
Stretching 446sq km, Mount Lao is the only coastal mountain
in China that is over a thousand meters above sea level. As a
well-known Taoism mountain, Mount Lao has a history dating back
2,000 years. The Laoshan State-level Scenic Area consists of nine
scenic spots and five renewed scenic spots. The emphasis will
be laid on road and infrastructure construction of the area.
Shilaoren State-level Holiday Resort Lying on the seashore in
eastern Qingdao, the 10.8sq km Shilaoren State-level Holiday Resort
includes a cultural exhibition centre, a sports centre, Century
Square, an ocean park, a dolphinarium, a sea recreation centre,
Qingdao beer city, and a swimming beach. Development is now concentrated
on such projects as tourism, recreation and conference, and exhibition.
* Langyatai Provincial-level Holiday Resort
Located to the north of Jiaonan Langyatai Scenic Resort, Langyatai
Provincial-level Holiday Resort is built along a 5km coastline
with numerous fine beaches and places of interest. It is divided
into five functional areas. Key development projects include tourism
and tourism facilities.
* Xuejiadao Provincial-level Holiday Resort
Lying at the western coast of Jiaozhou Bay, the Xuejiadao Provincial-level
Holiday Resort covers 9.8sq km in Huangdao District along a 3.5km
fine beach. It has complete infrastructure facilities with convenient
roads, and plenty water and power supply. The stress will be placed
on tourism development and construction of tourism facilities.
* Tianhengdao Provincial-level Holiday
Resort
Located to the east of Jimo City, the 9.8sq km Tianhengdao Island
is noted for the Tomb of 500 Martyrs and the Statue of Tian Heng,
an ancient general. Development in the resort will focus on tourism,
recreational facilities, catering services, and sports.
